The WICT Companion Network

By now you are all aware of the devastating effects that the war in Ukraine is having on people’s lives. According to UNHRC figures, more than 3,4 million citizens (mostly women and children) have since fled the country and are seeking refuge and employment in European countries.

With the government requiring men aged 18-60 to stay, it is now up to women to find employment and support their families and older relatives. Ukrainians are eligible to work throughout the 27-nation bloc for up to 3 years.

Recently, we rebranded WICT to ”The WICT Network” and I find the new description of our organization as “network” quite apt during these times. Professional Ukrainian women in the Media, Entertainment and Technology industries are looking for employment and I believe that we can all tap into our networks to help them find employment and settle in their new countries.

As a result, we have, together with 3 Ukrainian colleagues living in the Netherlands, created the WICT Companion Network, allowing our members to offer their time to professionals landing in their countries. This “buddy system” will ask you to assist your companion in finding employment, offer help with adapting in a new country or just to be a friend and answer questions about our industries. Needs are different, but we believe that you can all offer so much. This is not a formal mentorship or coaching programme, but an opportunity to give back and support someone in an unfortunate situation that could have happened to any of us.

President of The WICT Network Europe
